Kia Ora Esther,
What about having some American Screenwriters give talks in Auckland/Wellington sometime in the future??..And what would it take to get US Writer/Director Michael Mann to come to New Zealand??. I know it would cost a small fortune.
I have been in-touch with the NZ Directors Guild re this in the past, but like other organizations in this country, they don't want to know or they put more brick walls in-front of one...what is it with this country??

We are running a half day seminar in Auckland on 20 August with US screenwriter Tom Abrahms - longer term we are trying to bring over international guests on a regular basis: Rolf de Heer, the master of low budget art house cinema this year - but hopefully some Northern Hemisphere writers or writer/directors next year. What type of US screenwriter did you have in mind?

Yeah saw that one re Mr de Heer, good one!...it's not so much 'what type of screenwriter' Simon, it's more who
and their track record, that's why I mentioned Michael Mann above there, writers in this country could learn bucketloads from him...Mann started writing from the deep end on POLICE STORY, that's where he learnt about depth and story structure..Hell I would
even help to get him over here, just yell out if there's anything I can do Simon, but
I don't have the contacts like you perhaps in contacting people in the US who in turn would contact Mr Mann.Posted 1 year ago # -
Hi,
I was wondering is there was any chance you could record some of the Script to Screen sessions and make them available as audio podcasts?
This would be great for those of us not in Auckland. They could be available only to NZWG members for example...
Cheers, Jon

I'm glad you mentioned that Jon. It has taken time to get sound recording sorted, but we are now recording our regular Writer's Room discussions at the Classic. We currently have 2 recordings on the site. If you go to the Writer's Room summary archive - you will find sound recordings when you click on Gaylene Preston's and Stephen Cleary's events from last year. We should have recordings up soon for Cinematic Story and Martin Baynton on writing children's television. Unfortunately there are no symbols on the site for sound recordings yet as we have run out of budget for the website for now. So you need to click on the summaries - and then it will show if there is a recording - as I say all the regular Auckland summaries should have accompanying sound recordings from Cinematic Story onwards. Thanks
