			<title>Esther on "Interview with Keith Aberdine on NZ on Screen"</title>

			<description>&#60;p&#62;Hi,&#60;/p&#62;
&#60;p&#62;People might like to watch this short interview with Keith Aberdeine &#60;a href=&#34;http://screentalk.nzonscreen.com/interviews/keith-aberdein-scripting-nz-classics&#34; rel=&#34;nofollow&#34;&#62;http://screentalk.nzonscreen.com/interviews/keith-aberdein-scripting-nz-classics&#60;/a&#62;&#60;/p&#62;
&#60;p&#62;He's probably best known for portraying the small-town policeman who arouses Bruno Lawrence's ire, in Kiwi screen classic Smash Palace, but his screen work covers almost every angle: from journalism and directing, to writing scripts for some of the most ambitious television dramas of the 70s&#60;/p&#62;
&#60;p&#62;The interview ends, “If I had any contribution [to make]: I stood there and made a living out of something no one had really made a living out of before. And I did it mostly by craft and few cunning tricks ... If anything, if anybody was watching (and I was surprised if anyone was) I said this is possible... there will be tears and you’ll get kicked kicked in the head a bit, but this is possible and it also can also be bloody good fun!”&#60;/p&#62;
&#60;p&#62;His screen career began as a journalist on Town and Around and Compass. Aberdein has scripted major TV shows such as Pukemanu, Section 7,Moynihan, Close to Home, and the colonial epic The Governor.&#60;/p&#62;
&#60;p&#62;The ScreenTalk interview touches on:&#60;/p&#62;
&#60;p&#62;Why prolonging an interview with a survivor of the Wahine disaster still makes him shudder&#60;br /&#62;
The challenges of making Pukemanu and how the programme changed the face of drama on TV&#60;br /&#62;
The deliberate revisionism of history and Governor Grey in scripting The Governor&#60;br /&#62;
The negative and positive impact the programme had on TV in New Zealand&#60;br /&#62;
How Close to Home won the ratings battle for TV One against SPTV&#60;br /&#62;
Working on the script for Utu with Geoff Murphy&#60;br /&#62;
Writing a scathing script review of Smash Palace and how director Roger Donaldson got his own back when he cast him in the film&#60;br /&#62;
How making a career in TV can be fun, but will lead to tears
