Script to Screen and the New Zealand International Film Festival present a special Writers Room with Australian writer/director David Michod (Animal Kingdom) and writer/director Sam Peacocke (Manurewa) looking at how they approached contemporary crime stories.
Winner of the Grand Jury Prize (World Cinema Drama) at Sundance this year, Michod’s Animal Kingdom is a fictional drama based on extensive research into Melbourne’s crime underworld and a corrupt police force. Peacocke’s Manurewa is a short film based on the recent murder of a South Auckland liquor store owner during a robbery and the unfortunate handling of the situation by police.
Join MC Simon Marler in a discussion with the filmmakers about how they dealt with these sensitive and potentially dangerous stories and the significance of these films to local culture.
